Health and nutrition information affects real decisions, so we hold ourselves to clear standards. This page explains how we create, check, and update content.

How we develop recipes
- Recipes are built on established home-cooking methods and standard ratios. The currently published recipes have not been personally cooked and tested by the site owner, so we do not describe them as kitchen-tested. Cooking times are estimates. Our food-safety standard is to use USDA guidance for safe cooking temperatures.
- Images illustrate the finished dish and are chosen to match the ingredients and method in the recipe.
- We write ingredients in U.S. measurements with gram weights used for nutrition calculations.
- We favor ingredients you can find at a regular U.S. supermarket and list swaps for anything specialized.
How we calculate nutrition
Nutrition per serving is calculated from the gram weight of each ingredient using the USDA FoodData Central SR Legacy database. Values are estimates. They exclude optional garnishes unless stated, and they vary with brands, ingredient sizes, and portioning. Salt added “to taste” is not included.
How we handle health claims
- Our standard is to support health statements with source links, prioritizing peer-reviewed research, professional-society position statements, and government sources such as NIH and USDA.
- Health information should describe the limits of the evidence, including uncertainty or mixed findings. A source citation is not the same as an independent medical review.
- We never claim a food or recipe treats, cures, or prevents a disease or menopause symptom.
Review and updates
Content is published under the Midlife Plate Editorial Team byline. This is an editorial publishing name, not a medical credential. No named physician or registered dietitian is currently listed as an independent medical reviewer. Source citations and a last-updated date should not be interpreted as proof of clinical review. To report an error or an outdated reference, use our contact page and include the page address and the detail that needs checking.
Advertising and affiliate independence
We may earn money from ads and affiliate links. Advertisers and partners never influence our recipes, recommendations, or health information. See our affiliate disclosure.
Use of AI
Software, including AI-assisted tools, is used to help draft and organize content, format pages, and support calculations. Automated output is not a source of medical evidence and is not proof of cooking results. Our standards call for checking information against the underlying references; we do not claim that every page has received an independent human expert review. Recipe-development limits and nutrition estimates are explained above.
